Memorial Day: Remembering the men and women with guns who fought, and sometimes died, to preserve what freedoms we have left

Many American Heroes are dead.

We should remember them.

They sacrificed more than we did.

 Continued below:

This is also a day to hope that every American president who sent US soldiers to their death, in wars that we lost (Vietnam and Afghanistan), and a war that was not justified (Iraq), is somehow paid back for their sin with a slow, painful death.

The most powerful military on this planet -- the US military, led by our President -- should NEVER LOSE A WAR. It is completely unacceptable for Americans to die and be crippled in vain. If participating in a war is justified, the victory must be obtained by any means necessary. Including nuclear arms. I don't say that as a gun owner, or a warmonger. I am neither.

I say that as a conscientious objector, in writing, to the Vietnam War, with common sense. There is no logical reason to spend a huge percentage of our GDP on the military, and then lose a war against Vietnam or Afghanistan. The question of whether we should have fought with those nations, and Iraq, is another subject. The right answer, in my opinion, is no.

I know my position is not popular, but my goal in life is not to join a consensus that I don't agree with, just to be more popular. In 2003 I wrote a feature article in my newsletter ECONOMIC LOGIC about NOT starting a war with Iraq. My subscribers apparently did not agree -- over half of them never renewed -- a much higher percentage than usual. And so called friends argued with me, even while guests at our dinner table. It is never easy being outside of a consensus. But who said life was supposed to be easy?

2 + 2 = ?

Track 9 on
Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
"Yes it's true I am a young man
But I'm old enough to kill
I don't wanna kill nobody
But I must if you so will
And if I raise my hand in question
You just say that I'm a fool
Cause I got the gall to ask you
Can you maybe change the rules
Can you stand and call me upstart
Ask what answer can I find
I ain't sayin' I'm a genius

[Chorus]
2+2 is on my mind
2+2 is on my mind

[Verse 2]
Well I knew a guy in high school
Just an average friendly guy
And he had himself a girlfriend
And you made them say goodbye
Now he's buried in the mud
Over foreign jungle land
And his girl just sits and cries
She just doesn't understand
So you say he died for freedom
Well if he died to save your lies
Go ahead and call me yellow

[Chorus]
2+2 is on my mind
2+2 is on my mind

[Verse 3]
All I know is that I'm young
And your rules they are old
If I've got to kill to live
Then there's something left untold
I'm no statesman I'm no general
I'm no kid I'll never be
It's the rules not the soldier
That I find the real enemy
I'm no prophet I'm no rebel
I'm just asking you why
I just want a simple answer
Why it is I've got to die
I'm a simple minded guy"
